WHAT IS A CREDIT UNION?

A credit union is a member owned, not for profit financial cooperative, organized to promote thrift and provide credit to members. The credit union is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership. Directors serve on a volunteer basis to establish policy, set dividend and loan rates and direct certain operations. The Board of Directors may hire a management team to oversee the daily operations of the credit union.

HOW CAN I BECOME A MEMBER?

Membership is open to anyone living or working in the LaSalle County townships of Manlius, Rutland, Ottawa, South Ottawa, Utica, LaSalle or Peru. If you don’t live or work in one of these townships, you can join if one of your relatives is a First Choice Credit Union member.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BECOME A MEMBER?

The par value of our membership share is $20.00.

DOES BEING 'JOINT' ON AN ACCOUNT MAKE ME A MEMBER?

No, each person must have their own member # to be considered a member. Being joint on someone’s account only gives you access to all or part of that individual’s account.

WHEN WILL I GET MY ACCOUNT STATEMENTS?

Members with checking accounts receive a monthly statement. Savings account statements are issued quarterly.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR E STATEMENTS?

You can sign up for E Statements through online banking. After logging in to your account, click on the tab at the top of the page that says Services.

HOW DO I CHANGE MY ADDRESS ON MY ACCOUNT?

For your security, First Choice Credit Union requires all address changes to be in writing and signed by the member. Member Services will be happy to assist you.

WHEN WILL MY CHECKS CLEAR MY ACCOUNT?

As soon as they are presented for payment.

HOW MUCH ARE CHECKS GOING TO COST?

There are a variety of check options and pricing available. Ask Member Services for help choosing checks that suit your individual needs.

HOW DO I ORDER CHECKS?

Most members use the reorder form that comes with your prior check order. You can also ask Member Services to order checks for you.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY DEBIT CARD?

Debit cards are mailed and usually take 7-10 business days to receive. Your PIN will be sent in a separate envelope.

WHY DOESN’T MY ATM/DEBIT CARD WORK?

The most likely reasons are:

  • You don’t have enough money in your account to cover the amount of the transaction.
  • You tried to withdraw more than your daily limit.
  • Your card may have become demagnetized.
  • If you’re late on a loan payment with us, your card may have been deactivated.
  • The network may be temporarily offline.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY DEBIT CARD IS LOST OR STOLEN AFTER HOURS?

Call 800-500-1044 immediately. (This number is only to report lost or stolen cards. It is not a member service number.) On the next business day we are open, call the credit union at 815-434-5860 so we can issue you a new card.

WHY DO I NEED A PASSWORD TO GET ACCOUNT INFORMATION OR MAKE TRANSFERS OVER THE PHONE?

Your password allows us to protect your account by not giving information to or allowing transactions to be made by an unauthorized person. It is very important that you protect your password at all times.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR ONLINE BANKING?

Your member number and account number are the same, and that’s the number you will use to sign up for online banking. You will be required to choose security questions with answers that only you will know.

I WANT TO SIGN UP FOR ONLINE BANKING BUT DON’T KNOW MY MEMBER NUMBER. WHAT DO I DO?

Your member number and account number are the same, and that’s the number you will use to sign up for online banking. If you need help with the process, please contact Member Services at 815-434-5860.

IF I FORGOT MY ONLINE BANKING PASSWORD, WHAT DO I DO?

On the online banking log-in screen, click on the link that says “forgot password”. A temporary password will be sent to you by email and you can change it the next time you log on. If you don’t see the email, check your spam filter.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY SOCIAL SECURITY DEPOSIT?

www.socialsecurity.gov provides a calendar of payment dates that includes the date you will receive your deposit in the event your payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday. You can also use online banking to verify if your deposit has been received.

HOW DO I WIRE MONEY TO SOMEONE?

DO YOU PROVIDE NOTARY SERVICE?

First Choice Credit Union offers free notary service to our members.

CAN I APPLY ONLINE FOR A LOAN?

Yes. Please see our loan application page.

WHAT INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO APPLY FOR AN AUTO LOAN?

We will need your most recent pay stub or federal tax return for the prior year along with the year, make, model of the car, its options and mileage. You can also apply for an auto loan online.

WHAT IS THE GRACE PERIOD ON MY LOAN?

Ten days for consumer loans.

CAN I CHANGE THE MONTHLY DUE DATE ON MY LOAN?
